The International Food Policy Research Institute conducted a weeklong capacity strengthening event at its headquarters in Washinton D.C, from June 28th to August 6th, 2025. The workshop was attended by policy analysts from Papua New Guinea’s Department of National Planning and Monitoring and the Department of Treasury. The session focused on refining macroeconomic models and drawing data-driven insights to support investment decisions in PNG, with specific focus on informing the upcoming 2026 national budget. The training concluded in the presence of PNG’s Ambassador to the United States Cephas Kayo and Deputy Secretary of Planning, Michael Kumung. IFPRI Director General Johan Swinnen delivered welcome remarks during their visit, expressing appreciation for the long standing collaboration between IFPRI and the Government of Papua New Guinea, and highlighting the upcoming establishment of the IFPRI-PNG in country office.
