IFPRI-PNG has partnered with the National Agriculture Research Institute (NARI) to implement a Fresh Produce Value Chain Survey spanning from Tambul in Western Highlands to Lae and further on to Port Moresby. The value chain study will interview farmers, traders, wholesalers, vendors, and consumers across the fresh produce corridor to understand costs, challenges and opportunities of fresh vegetable production, transport, and marketing within the country. Over the course of two weeks, NARI and IFPRI trained 45 enumerators on survey methods, enumeration techniques, questionnaire design, and tablet software use.

Over the course of the next several months, the rural survey exercise will interview 1,300 farmers and 260 traders across Western Highlands, Chimbu, Jiwaka, Goroka, and Morobe provinces to inform vegetable volume flow, transaction costs, and price transmission from the highlands corridor to Port Moresby.
