The Papua New Guinea (PNG) Agriculture, Food and Nutrition Policy Support Program (PNG-AFNP) is a 4- year program with a focus of providing data-driven analysis to inform economic growth and enhanced food security. The PNG-AFNP aims to provide long-term, food system policy support through building the capability of PNG Departments and agencies to lead data collection and analysis for evidence-based policy making to achieve economic growth and improved livelihoods.
The PNG-AFNP is organized around 5 key areas to inform policy and support data-driven analysis:
- Agricultural growth and transformation in the commodity, fresh produce and livestock sectors
- Climate resilient agriculture, climate adaptation and climate mitigation in the agricultural sector
- Women's economic empowerment in the agriculture sector
- Food security and nutrition
- Enhancing domestic and export agricultural value chains
The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), in collaboration with a variety of PNG partners, will examine the tradeoffs and opportunities of achieving key development outcomes; while strengthening the strategic planning and implementation processes through which outcomes can be achieved. In doing so, the PNG-AFNP will continue to build evidence, tools, and capability to support Papua New Guinea’s agricultural transformation and ongoing economic growth.
